A Story of Cookies

One day Mickey was playing at the beach when Minnie came running to him

Mickey: Hi Minnie!

Minnie: Hey Mickey, what happened

Mickey: I need to talk to you

Minnie: Sure tell me

Mickey: What are cookies on a website? I keep hearing about them

Minnie: Ah, cookies. They are small files that websites store on your computer or device when you visit them

Mickey: Huh, so what do they do?

Minnie: Think of cookies like a virtual name tag that a website puts on you to remember who you are and what you like

Mickey: Can you give me an example?

Minnie: Sure! Let’s say you visit a pizza restaurant’s website and sign up for their rewards program. They’ll send you a cookie that has your name and email address on it. Then, whenever you go back to the website, they’ll recognize you because of that cookie and remember your preferences, like your favorite toppings

Mickey: Oh, that makes sense. So cookies are like digital hand stamps?

Minnie: Exactly! It’s like getting a hand stamp at an amusement park. The stamp shows you’ve already paid to get in, so when you leave and come back, they can see your stamp and know you’ve already paid. Cookies work the same way, except they’re digital and they remember your preferences and settings on a website

Mickey: Can cookies be helpful?

Minnie: Yes, cookies can be helpful because they can save you time by remembering your preferences and settings on a website. For example, if you frequently visit a shopping website, cookies can remember your login information or your previous searches so you don’t have to enter them every time you visit

Mickey: But are there any concerns with cookies?

Minnie: Yes, there are some privacy concerns with cookies. Some websites use cookies to track your activity online, which can be concerning for some people. However, most modern web browsers allow you to control which websites can use cookies and give you the option to delete them at any time

Mickey: Thanks for explaining that to me. I feel like I understand cookies a lot better now!

Minnie: You’re welcome! It’s always good to learn new things about technology.

Mickey: You are my best friend!

Minnie: I am always there for you
